Bwindi originated from the Runyakitara word Mubwindi, meaning “Place of full darkness.” Bwindi is an ancient forest; it was called Bwindi to signify its impenetrable formalities; most of the forest is very thick, covered by tree canopy, and hard to penetrate. The Bwindi Forest is famous for its gorilla trekking safaris in Uganda. You will see gorillas and other beautiful wild creatures and swamps in the park.
Since the forest is very thick and makes it impossible, you can still penetrate and track the Mountain gorillas that inhabit the area alongside the gorillas’ other animals like clawless otters, side-striped jackals, pottos, duiker antelopes, bushpigs, black colobus monkeys, forest hogs, genets, golden cats, troops of baboons and over 400 species of birds such Handsome spurfowl, Doherty’s bushshrike, African green pigeon, Speckled pigeon, Common sandpiper and over 300 species of trees.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is in the southwestern part of Uganda. The Park is a portion of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest located in Virunga National Park close to the Democratic Republic of Congo across the Western Great Rift Valley, stretches to 327-kilometer square.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994, situated at 2,610 meters above sea level.
What was the first gorilla-habituated family in Uganda? The mubare gorilla family was the first to habituate in Bwindi in 1993; the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park hosts around 459 mountain gorillas at the time of writing. This number represents the portion of 1029 gorilla members that still exist on earth today. This fact has made Uganda the best place for gorilla trekking safari in Africa.

How is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Protected?
Uganda National Park Authority is the only government with complete control to oversee the Park activities and wellbeing.
