8 Day Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing : One of the best routes to climb Kilimanjaro Mountain, the Lemosho trail slants the mountain from the western side. After trekking for two days, the route joins the Machame route on a third day; this route is dominated by rainforest and moorland. The nights will be spent in the mountain tents.

Day 1. Londorossi to Mti Mkubwa

Altitude: 7,742 ft to 9,498 ft

Covered distance: 6 to 7 kilometers

Climbing time: 4 hours

Habitat: Thick rainforest

We leave Arusha for Kilimanjaro trekking; the trek begins at Londorossi gate and takes about 4 hours to reach your first camp. A very thick rainforest inhabits the trail, and along the way, you will see some wild creatures like troops of monkeys and beautiful birds.

 Day 2. Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1Camp

Altitude: 9,499 ft to 11,502 ft

Covered distance: 7 – 8 kilometers

Climbing time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Heather

We proceed with trekking as we pass the small volcanic rocks and grassy vegetation before reaching the Shira plateau; the breathtaking views of Kibo Peak will surprise you. 

Day 3. Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

Altitude: 11,500 ft to 13,800 ft

Covered distance: 12 kilometers

Climbing time: 8 hours

Habitat: Heather

Today, we walk to the Moir Hut, one of the less explored areas at the base of Lent Hills. Did you know? That Shira plateau is one of the tallest on Earth? A climbing expert will accompany you to ensure you reach the summit. Once you reach Moir Hut, you may take a short walk across the area, which is the best way of catching up with the acclimatization. 

Day 4. Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp.

Altitude: 13,890 ft to 13,044 ft

Covered distance: 10 kilometers

Climbing time: 8 hours

Habitant: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, we set off on the way and headed to Barranco camp. Before reaching the Barranco, we will stop at Lava Tower for lunch and acclimatization. We will then proceed to the Barranco camp for our overnight; the trail from the Lava Tower to the Barranco camp is simple to descend.

Day 5. Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Altitude: 13,044 ft. to 13,106 ft.

Covered distance: 6 kilometers

Climbing time: 5 hours

Habitant: Alpine Desert

You may have heard of a Barranco wall, one the well-known for its steepness with a nearly cliff of 900 ft., making it a technical valley to cross. Today, we’ll walk up to Karanga Camp, where we will stay for the rest of the night.

DAY 6 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Altitude: 13,106 ft. to 15,331 ft.

Covered distance: 5 kilometers

Climbing time: 6 hours

We will ascend to Barafu camp, our last camp before summiting; we plan only to walk 5 km so we’ve enough time to relax, preparing our bodies for the upcoming night summit. Once you are here, you can see the two peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi.

Day 7. Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Altitude: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft

Covered distance: 5 kilometers

Climbing time: 8 hours

Habitat: Arctic

Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Altitude: 19,341 ft. to 10,065 ft.

Covered distance: 11 kilometers

Climbing time: 6 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

Around midnight, your guide will be ready to begin the unforgettable trek; they will insist on freeing your mind and letting the positive thoughts flow, requiring excellent mental and physical wellness. This part of the trekking is challenging. The fast-blowing winds combined with cold flying from the eastern side of the mountain can be a big trouble at this height, but all you need is consistency because it’s never going to harm you. We will continue to ascend for a few hours. We aim to see the sunrise that rises from the Mawenzi Peak, and this will undoubtedly be the most fantastic sunrise you’ve ever seen. 

We will finally arrive at Uhuru Peak, the highest summit of Africa and one of the seven summits on Earth.

DAY 8 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Altitude: 10,065 ft. to 5,380 ft.

Covered distance: 11 kilometers

Climbing time: 5 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

We are proud of ourselves; the mission is accomplished. After breakfast, we will head towards the Mweka Gate, an exit gate.

Your transfer guide will either drop you at the airport or the hotel.
